If We Care So Much, Why Do We Do So Little

I joined the clean world movement over a year ago, believing this would be a great tool to help me care for the earth in a much bigger and meaningful way. I have been greatly disappointed. No one seems to be participating. I see no events listed, no updates on whats going on, nothing. It makes me hesitant to post anything at all. I sit at home sometimes thinking about my polluted beach, my sick river, and my devastated forest, and I want to do something. But its soooo much, so vast, how can i… Continue

Need person with jeep or SUV in Orange County California on joint hike

I would like to do a hike and meanwhile do a clean up of a hiking trail.

The trail I would like to clean is the Holy Jim trail that leads to the peaks of Santiago Peak or

Modjeska Peak in Orange County California.

The problem is I do not have a jeep or an SUV to complete the rugged 5 mile trip on the road that

leads to the base of the trail. If you do have such a vehicle and are willing to join on a hike, I am

ready with a backpack always packed with water… Continue

Clean Up

Hello Everyone!

My apologies for the long overdue update! The semester started and things got a little crazy. I had a clean up this past Friday and unfortunately the group was rather small, but we made a difference! We collected about 2 bags worth of trash near the trail. I took pictures and have my activity report completed, but will need to post both of them a little later due to uploading issues :( My apologies. I was able to get in touch with the Earth Club at my college, and… Continue

Caretaking Weekend at Manahawkin, NJ

May 22, 2010 at 11am to May 23, 2010 at 3pm
This is a great chance to come spend time on projects and camp over night with other folks who share your love of the Earth. Projects will include furthering the naturalization of the big party area we reclaimed last year, camoing in some new "roads" cut into the woods which will become sand roads if we don't prevent their use. We'll also be working on clearing a few fire breaks on Spirit Hill which, at their current growth, wouldn't do much for averting fire. Remember children are welcome, but…See More

Some Tips on How an Environmental Director can create a local cleanup

First, remember that this is fun and easy. You are the one who decides how much time is involved and how much impact your local Movement has.

Scope out your area and/or ask around for opinions about where the most difference can be made the fastest.

Schedule it. When you schedule something, it becomes REAL. Consistency is key to increase participation. When someone is interested in being a CWM Volunteer but can’t make this week, they’ll surely be there next! Have someone designated as an “assistant” or a backup in the event you are unable to make one of the scheduled days.

Post ads online in free places like www.craigslist.org and www.volunteermatch.org. Ask everyone you know to find out who wants to jump on board and help. Post bulletins on public boards at Universities and such. Share the cleanworldmovement.org website. The more you talk about it, the more others will be inspired to participate.

Provide gloves and bags for the CWM Volunteers. You can decide to donate these yourself or you may ask for these to be donated by local businesses, etc. Plan in advance where and how you will dispose of the litter that is collected.

Track your results! It is inspiring to share with your CWM Volunteer Team and your community that you collected 610 cigarette butts, 112 plastic bottles, 5 shoes and miles of fishing line…
And, we would love to hear those results too!

We appreciate you and we know you’ll appreciate the cleaner environment and the fulfillment of knowing you are making a difference each and every day.
